Samsung Galaxy Watch Active hands-on: One UI in, bezel ring out

Last updated: May 24th, 2019 at xiii:26 UTC+01:00

The Milky way Lookout Agile is part of the new lineup of wearable devices that Samsung launched yesterday. Is information technology a successor to the Gear Sport or an entirely new smartwatch generation from Samsung? That depends on the way you await at it, but for us, it appears to be a mix of the two. It's not a bad mix by any stretch of the imagination. Read our Milky way Watch Active hands-on to find out more about our thoughts on the new smartwatch.

Design

Our first impressions of the Galaxy Watch Agile are that it has a streamlined wait. Samsung has made subtle but meaningful changes to the blueprint for a simpler advent. It does retain the same round pattern of its predecessors but ditches the rotating bezel. Samsung set its smartwatches apart with the rotating bezel but information technology has decided to remove information technology from the Milky way Watch Agile. We're not too thrilled about this move, but does that make the Galaxy Watch Agile any less of a smartwatch? Admittedly not.

Ditching the fluted rotating bezel meant that the smartwatch could take a shine design. Information technology has gentle curves not unlike those on the Apple Watch. Certain, the Apple Watch isn't round, simply the curves do let for a smoothen glass expect. That's what yous get on the Galaxy Watch Active and it looks meliorate on it due to the circular pattern. We do feel that the bezel could accept been a scrap smaller. Equally such, it would exist improve to not use a colorful watch face on this device. You'd get the best look from the Galaxy Scout Agile if you lot opt for a darker sentinel face up instead.

Interface

The Galaxy Watch Active brings One UI to Samsung'south smartwatches and a slightly new user interface since it doesn't have a rotating bezel ring. That blueprint element was used for navigation and since information technology's not nowadays, Samsung plain had to make changes to the interface. That beingness said, you wouldn't experience lost if you lot're used to the quondam interface. Much of it still looks the same even though there are new animations and icons. The overall functionality remains the same and works equally expected.

Since the Galaxy Watch Active is geared towards users who live an active lifestyle, the new animations are meant to become users to exist more active in their daily lives. We notice that they work equally intended. There are also new watch faces like we run into on every new smartwatch from Samsung. The health tracking features allow for sleep and stress tracking in addition to blood force per unit area monitoring. The new Daily Action Tracker widget will ensure that users stay on top of their fitness goals. The smartwatch can also send users a Heart Rate Alarm if it detects that they have an abnormally high resting center charge per unit. That's a very useful feature to take on the device.

Conclusion

Despite not beingness that different compared to the Galaxy Sport every bit far as the size is concerned, the Galaxy Sentry Active does feel like a serious new production. The swiping interface and seamless expect get in stand up out sufficiently enough. Nosotros do experience that this has the potential to be a hit for Samsung. Nosotros're also exciting in seeing Samsung bring this new user interface to existing smartwatches.

We'll have a full review of the Milky way Picket Active up in the most future so do stay tuned for more of our thoughts on the new smartwatch.
